The Dance Studio is centrally located in downtown Hot Springs, SD and is within walking distance of all schools. After opening for summer camps and then officially in September of 2016, The Dance Studio offers a variety of dance styles for all ages. The studio offers a 33' X 19' sprung dance floor for the safety and enjoyment of all students.
About the Owner
Abby Thomsen-Studio Owner, Instructor, Director
Abby Thomsen has been dancing for over 20 years. She trained at the Lander Dance Academy in Wyoming during elementary school and Prima School of Dancing in Rapid City during her junior high and high school years. From her very first day of dance class Abby knew that she wanted to become a dance teacher.
Abby has studied Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Lyrical, Modern, and Clogging. She has competed in Spotlight Dance competitions as well as High School Dance competitions in various styles of dance and received numerous awards.
Abby received a Bachelor of Science degree from Black Hills State University where she studied Exercise Science, Business Administration, and Athletic Coaching. During high school Abby was the captain of Rapid City Stevens High School Dance Team and “The Blues” Dance Performance Team, where she choreographed the dances for competitions and school performances. During college she pursued advanced dance instruction under Jamaal Curry, professional Hip-Hopper, and from the renowned Zenon Dance Company in Minneapolis, MN, with training in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Afro-Modern, Belly Dance, and Improvised Dance. Abby completed an internship at Prima School of Dancing in 2015, where she continued working in all areas of the business until opening her own studio.
Abby loves to share passion for dancing with each of her students and she strives to inspire them to grow to love the art of dance as much as she does. With her knowledge of exercise science she is able to provide not only a high quality dance education, but also emphasizes strengthening routines to help prevent common dance-related injuries. She is highly committed to teaching her dance students correct technique in a safe, supportive and fun learning environment.
