Students are placed in classes with others similar in age and ability to ensure each dancer is able to benefit from instruction and is learning what is appropriate for their individual capabilities.
Classes are, however, taught according to the abilities of the students in the class and the syllabus adapted to meet the students' needs. When determining the placement of a student, the Director considers the ability of the student on an individual basis as well as the collective needs of a class. Students may be recommended to remain in the same class for a number of years while their mind and body learn to work together and they become strong enough to execute the movements required to progress to more challenging classes. The Director considers the following when determining placement in classes: student’s attendance, attitude, behavior, confidence, effort, and adherence to The Dance Studio rules, including the dress code and the class rules.
The Dance Studio Policies and Procedures
Registration: A non-refundable fee of $30 per student is required yearly at time of registration for liability.
Payment of Fees: There is a two-month minimum for all lessons. A one-month notice from the first of the month is required to discontinue any class. Withdrawals need to be a written notice or done in person and will not be accepted over the phone. No withdrawals will be accepted after March 1 and if costumes have been ordered you are responsible for the payment.
Inclement Weather or Unexpected Interruption of Classes: The Dance Studio will be closed if the City School system closes due to inclement weather. If inclement weather causes a class to be missed multiple times, the Director may schedule additional classes. If the weather changes drastically throughout the day or night please check email and the Facebook page for further information.
Class Attendance: Students are registered for a slot in each class, not how many classes they actually attend. The beginning of class is crucial for the students, as it includes proper warm up for each particular dance style. The studio reserves the right to have students who come in more than 10 minutes late observe the class. Repeated tardiness or absence my result in termination of lessons. The recital point system will begin the second week of January and will be enforced for dance recital participation.
Parent’s Responsibility to be Aware of Dates and Events: It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to be aware of all studio activities such as recitals, performances, special viewing days, and dates the studio is open or closed. It is the parent’s responsibility to inform the office of any address or telephone changes.
Care of Students and Siblings: The studio is not responsible for providing before or after class care for students or their siblings. Parents with students in Pre-Ballet and Pre-Tap are encouraged to have a parent or responsible acting guardian available during class time. Students are not to be left at the studio for excessive time before or after class.
Observation Policy: There is an observation window available to view the dancers. In order to protect the optimal learning environment for the students, please make observing a class a special occurrence, stand away from the window, use quiet voices, and no cell phones. If observers cause a disruption to the lessons they will be asked to leave.
Instruction Policy: The Dance Studio owns all material and choreography taught in class and students must have the Director’s permission to use any such material.
Class Placement Policy: Parents and students agree to uphold the decision of placement of the Director.
Dress Code: Students must adhere to the dress code and hair requirements for each style and level of dance.
Injuries: Students, parents and legal guardians of minor students waive the right to any legal action for any injury or damages sustained before, during or after class on The Dance Studio’s property. If a student is injured a note from a Doctor, School Nurse, or parent will be required for a student to sit out of class or to return to class after an injury.
Photo Release: The studio is hereby granted permission to take photographs and videos of the student to use in brochures, web sites, posters, advertisements, and other promotional material the studio creates. Permission is also hereby granted for the studio to copyright such photographs in its name.
